Terrible — BMW can do much better

I am running the app on a fully up to date iphone 6, and connecting to a 2016 BMW 328i, so there should be no issues regarding updates (idrive software is fully updated) or compatibility. If this app worked as advertised, it would be very nice. But it is super buggy, feels like a beta, at best. Problems: 1) The app does not run as a stand alone. To load additional apps (Pandora, Amazon music), it requires yet another app to be loaded onto the iphone. 2) It forgets the apps previously loaded. I put in Pandora, TuneIn Radio and others. But upon reconnect, it only remembers Pandora. 3) Webradio completely highjacks the system. If running webradio and then switch to, say, Pandora, it will run Pandora for about 5 seconds and then switch back to webradio. Super frustrating. To get to Pandora, the iphone must be unplugged, app killed and then, with luck, it may reconnect with the option to get to Pandora. 4) Function is sporadic — upon plugging in through USB, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. And once it is streaming something, forget going back to simply piping music from the iphone. No way to do it. BMW makes beautiful cars. But this app is junk — far below BMW standards.

No support. Dangerous app.

App freezes when connecting USB to car with "Connected". 2012 X5. Loss of control with music files on iPhone 6. USB appears to "race" phone connectivity and app. Web Radio app does not appear in car menu when this happens. If web radio is playing, it is impossible to go back to media (songs) on the iPhone without selecting playlist then it is not possible to stop playing the same song since music is stuck on "repeat" and "shuffle". It is not possible to turn off without screwing with the phone. If car is shut off with USB plugged in, app will freeze stating "connected" with no way to recover without powering off phone, and no control of music on phone after that. Very dangerous distraction while driving! Support does not contact me.

Beyond Bad

If the lemon law applies to BMW apps they have a serious problem. For a company that prides themselves on technology its pretty bad that they cant get their apps to work well.

Waze Support Would Help Out Drastically

Waze Support Would Help Everyone With Their Daily Commute, Road Trips Etc...

Terrible

With all the money spent on buying a car BMW should at least invest a little in technology.

BMW Fail

This is starting to hurt your brand and reputation. Please rethink your app strategy asap. Its nearly 2016 and flawless integration between mobile and motor is expected.

Look at all these reviews!

It is amazing how many horrible reviews this has gotten. And that they are all 100% spot on. And that BMW does nothing. I now drive me wifes jeep and leave my car in the garage because I need to get my emails and messages when traveling. Will never buy another BMW.

BMW Connected Drive is a complete fail!

Dear BMW ConnectedDrive software developers, you all should be fired immediately and Ill explain why. This app and the ConnectedDrive concept is a complete fail because it is useless, annoying, and unsafe. One well known company that made my iPhone spent enormous amount of resources to develop great phone interface. There is absolutely no need for you guys to disable it as a so called safety measure and try to control the phone apps with your own slow, buggy pourly designed menus. The only 2 things needed for in-car usb phone integration. First, connect phones or tablets audio to the cars audio system. Second, charge the phone through this usb. The rest Ill do through my iPhone. Thats all I expect from my $65K BMW! Thank you and, since you guys are there, please ask your upper management to start reading these rewiews. Have a great day.

Much improved

This app is great. Has improved quite a lot since its release!

Renders phone useless?

$90k for a car should mean idiot-proofing the companion apps. Yep, I said it. You have hunt down how to install additional apps, update the firmware and maybe how to have app run in the background (no luck). And Im an engineer.

Be connect

The app didnt work at all.

Will never use get connected

100% waste of time. Easier to use maps & Sirius on my I Pad, then waste my time with BMW s complexity.

Shocked

I purchased a brand new X5 today. They touted this app at the dealership. So, I was shocked to find out that, in 2016, I had to physically plug my phone into the vehicle for this app to work. Anything this app can do, it should be able to do through Bluetooth and/or Wifi. In fact, most of what this app can do can happen via Bluetooth without the app. Please enable Apple CarPlay so we can move beyond these kinds of problems.

Really? You think youre World Class?

Persistent connection! I have an iTouch dedicated to my car. Why would I have to restart the app on the iTouch every time I get in it? This is IT 101, not rocket science. Its obvious you have a problem with simple protocol, so hire people that understand simple technology. The CEO should be a person that understands you should never launch products that dont represent the brand well, or youll define the brand by its shortcomings. Read your reviews and respond. I didnt duty this car to have anything less than perfect. Performance AND technology! You are definitely far from world class, defined simply by attention to detail!

good intend - bad implementation

I was looking for app to interact with my car after moving it to location where teleservices is not available. Purpose #1 - send the destination to the car navigation. I finally managed to get it done, but it requeres TWO(!) apps and USB (!!!) connection. Hello, BMW, it’s 21st century, bluetooth is there, why do not use it? It even worse, once you plug in USB it disables bluetooth audio/playback. Purpose #2 - remember car position. Does it, but once again, if you forgot to plug in USB you won’t get car position. The rest of apps is just useless. I would love to have third party app, or any hack, or aftermarket, but seems BMW made every effort to make customers suffer on technology side as much as enjoy on driving side.

Recall update and lost an app

My 2016 X5 xdrive40e had an open recall for a software flash which illuminated the airbag function light. The software update was done, and cleared the airbag code, but now this app doesnt work. Please get your act together BMW.

BMW X5 2011

Like ability to "tune in" Caribbean Radio. Pretty extensive list of countries. Has its limitations

great app

This is a great app except for the fact that it does not integrate all the functionality and connectivity offered by the car (2014 328xi GT). I absolutely love the internet radio which allows you to listen to whatever radio station in the world, anywhere you have cell phone signal. I wish it also had the lock/unlock/air conditioning capabilities from BMW Remote and the ability to send a destination to the car from BMW Connected North America. Among the three, this is by far the best and the one that I use daily.
